Free the West Memphis Three [04 Feb 2007|11:53pm]
"These boys didn't get a fair trial. They got picked for wearing black clothes and having long hair. I am fundamentally opposed to the death penalty, and as Lenny Bruce said, In the halls of justice, all the justice is in the halls. Perhaps, a jury is composed of twelve men and women of average ignorance. and a judge is a lawyer who once knew a politician. In our system of justice, the best client for a lawyer is a scared millionaire. The worst thing in our criminal justice system is to be broke or different."
-Tom Waits

I just bought Mara Leveritt's book "Devil's Knot" about the incarceration of the West Memphis Three... I've been interested in it for a while now, since Brandon gave me a brief overview of it and I've researched the case a little.
I think everyone should be "educated" about this completely ludicrous WITCH TRIAL. I'm not the most knowledgable person in the department of judiciary customs, but I know that the phrase "innocent until proven guilty" is included in the Declaration of Human Rights. I feel that that statement was completely obstructed in this case. The prosecuting attorney in this case has even been quoted as saying "There was a lack of physical evidence to tie anyone or anything to the crime scene."

"I know that this is not the only case of innocent people in prison and I am not trying to imply that this is the only case like this that should be addressed. But it's there, glaring in your face, obscenely flaunting its ignorance and hatred. You can't let this kind of thing happen on your watch and call yourself free."
-Henry Rollins

I wish everyone would take like 10 minutes out of their day to go to either www.wm3.org or Crime Library (http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/famous/memphis/index_1.html) and read one of the synopses of the murders and trials.

The more I read about this case, the more frustrated I get that they're not getting the re-trial that they deserve. There are a monumental amount of people supporting their cause. From actors & comedians like Jack Black and Margaret Cho... To Former President Bill Clint, to respected musicians like Tom Waits, Henry Rollins, and Joe Strummer.

I just think that this is something that's really important. And I think everyone should be aware of the truly tragic injustice thats taken place by keeping these three men in prison for the last 13 years. I really can't stress it enough... It breaks my heart every time I think about it. No innocent person should have to do one second of time for a crime they didn't commit.

If you read this... Thanks. If you went to either of those sights... Thanks A LOT.

Ok. [15 Jan 2007|11:03pm]
Who cares what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has to say anyway?
Babel... Maybe it won't win at the Oscars...

Riding with Travis Bickle [15 Jan 2007|06:49pm]
[ mood | crazy ]

So I was perusing through IMDB today. Reading threads for the movies that I like, like I usually do on a daily to weekly basis. I happened to be reading the page for The Departed, because as some of you MAY know, the Golden Globes are on tonight... And I was just browsing for some thoughts on if/what The Departed was going to win. And I came across this thread. It annoyed me WAY more than usual. This guy just ranted about how Steven Spielberg is such a better director than Martin Scorcese. Which really went up my ass... Here's just a smidge of his idiocy.

"I keep on reading about all the jokes towards Steven Spielberg, and while that's your right, you must also know that like it or not, Spielberg is the most successful director of all time, with two Best Director Oscars, an AFI award, numerous best director awards all over the world, a National Merit award, and other achievements that no other living director can even compete with. Oh, and Spielberg just got a Kennedy honor, something I doubt Scorsese will ever get in his lifetime."

I mean, COME ON. STEVEN SPIELBERG. Quentin Tarantino is a better director and he's directed a handful of films. It's quality, not quantity. Spielberg has directed 49397897 movies... Some of my favorites even. The Indiana Jones series, Jaws, Hook... Among a ton of fun to watch garbage like Jurassic Park. Which I readily admit that I love. Then theres the big "achievements". Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, Schindlers List... Saving Private Ryan was a great movie. But in my opinion, once you've seen a WWII movie... You've seen then all. Amistad was one of the most boring movies I have EVER seen. I fell asleep. I'm sorry. And Schindler's List... Great movie. It's sad, it's moving, it's long as fuck. Doesn't mean it's bad. But I'd rather visit ANY holocaust memorial/monument/museum 550 times, than watch this movie more than twice. And again, in my opinion, holocaust movies are like war movies. Seen one, seen all.

While you can argue that the same can be said for mobster movies, I disagree. But back to Martin Scorcese... Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, THE DEPARTED... And even No Direction Home. All fucking... Amazing films. But oops, none ever won the Academy Award for Best Picture or Best Director. So just discredit his work. Taxi Driver was nominated for 4 Oscars. Raging Bull-8. Robert DeNiro won best actor. Joe Pesci won Best Supporting Actor for Goodfellas, which was nominated for 6 Oscars. Casino-1. Gangs of New York was nominated for 10. And even No Direction Home won an Emmy and a Grammy.

Scorcese isn't even my favorite director. I just think people should give credit where credit is due.

This rant has lasted FAR too long.
My point is that this guy is the same type of person who prefers the Yankees because they're won more World Series' than anyone else.
And it's annoying.

I know a certain Boyfriend in a Coma (I would call you by your REAL name, but that would break the cycle of me NEVER using your actual name.) in particular will probably enjoy this rant. Because he's so often praised Scorcese VIA LJ. Also, I'll be rootin for your boy tonight watching the Golden Globes.

Nutcracker with Em, Mal, & Liz on friday, twas fun. Then the space. Was ok.
went to one of the greatest parties ever on Saturday night.
Started my job at Brown on Monday.
I fucking love it.
Tomorrow night is Birdcage's official FIRST SHOW. I made a flyer, and last night me, bran and mal went flyering. Providence, and Taunton. Haha. I think we put fliers on every door and car at Bandstand Live. People were probably pissed for no reason. Oh well. I don't caaare.
So if you have nothing to do, head over to AS220. It's only $6, so don't bitch and go. Please.
Also, Christmas Party Saturday night. At my cribbage.

Inner-City Suicides. [07 Dec 2006|01:30am]
Boston is for lovers.
Providence IS love.

Starting work at Brown a week from Monday.
Figures, the only time I step foot inside of a Brown educational building is to work there. Oh well, over-dramatic, exhaustingly wonderful, unappologetic, sarcasm-clad sweethearts can't be choosers.
Lunch on Thayer will be fun though.
I can attune myself with the trendy, fast-paced language of Starbucks.
Grande caramel mocha latte.
...That's all I got.

Me & Malissa took some pictures from Prospect Park the other night.
I really love Providence.

As Jimmy The Saint would say, I need a guy who makes me thump.

Amid the chaos of that day, when all I could hear was the thunder of gunshots, and all I could smell was the violence in the air, I look back and am amazed that my thoughts were so clear and true, that three words went through my mind endlessly, repeating themselves like a broken record:
you're so cool, you're so cool, you're so cool...

Eulogy [15 Nov 2006|01:43am]
[ mood | awake ]

So I've been REALLY sick with this severe sinus infection.
SUCKS. I've been like laying around for days. I think I've left the house once to go to the doctor. Oh, and once today to go to Blockbuster.
I HATE being sick. I hate not being able to just go out whenever I want, and laying around all day. If I could actually sleep, I would do that all day. But I can't.

More importantly, I've decided to quit smoking. I had almost a full pack Saturday night, and I threw them away. Which turned out to be a surprisingly good idea.
At the doctor's yesterday they hooked me up to some machine to help me breathe. Gave me some medicine. They gave me these breathing tests. On my result sheet under my general info, it said-
Age: 20
Lung Age: 35
WHAT. Yeah. I'm ALL set with smoking. I'll smoke here and there, at parties and when I'm drinking. But as for everyday smoking. I'm most definitely chillin out. My lungs are old enough to be my mom.
I don't want cancer in 10 years. I'm pretty sure chemotherapy will never be trendy, and oxygen tanks will never be the IT accessory. Therefore, a major cutback is in order.

Hopefully getting a new camera for Christmas, so I can HOPEFULLY take some photography classes next year. Time to call Dad.

Also... My jam of the moment is Erykah Badu 'On & on'.
... Does that look like it says 'onion' to anyone else? Idk. Maybe it'd my meds making me dilirious.

[10 Nov 2006|05:38pm]
I like going to the club.
I like getting drunk.
I like dancing like a hoe.
I like making out with all my friends.

I want to do it everyday.
Theres something about the hormones, pheromones, alcohol, music, sweat, grinding, kissing, groping... That's just amazingly fulfilling.

Love life.
Possibly Hell tonight wit Broseph, Nando & MalCUNT.
I wanna go because I haven't been in like a trillion years. I might go tomorrow night too. Not definite yet.

Boredom ensues.

If you have a myspace...
Please wander over to the following profile, and listen to this band, because they're amazing.
If theres no music up, check back periodically. It's worth it. I promise.

My jam of the moment is... Roulette Dares, by the Mars Volta.

I find your lack of faith disturbing. [23 Oct 2006|12:00pm]
I want another tattoo.
Jose owes me $5. Haha.
Party Saturday night was fun. Ran out of beer. Which sucked. But everyone had to "enjoy each others company". Which was great.
Ooooh shit.
I love Donald Pleasence.
That'll be all.

All you need is love.

SOOO this week has been violently uneventful.
Tomorrow's FriDEEEE. I cannot wait for the weekend.
Tomorrow night... Me & Malissa are FINALLY getting our Dresden Dolls tickets for New Jersey. It's almost 100% my fault that we're getting them this laaate. But whatever.

Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together...

Saturdaaaay! BWAHAHA! Party at Tommy's. Dressin up. Shirts & ties for the lads, something perty for the ladies. I cannot wait.
Me, Liz, and Maaaal still need to get some "costumes" haha.
I really just can't wait to be smashed. For some reason this week went by SO slowly. I feel like I haven't been intoxicated in SO long.
I'm in need of an alcoholic afternoon. Immediately.

I hope this was the last season of Flavor of Love. CHOKE.

Uuuum... I saw The Departed last weekend. It was pretty intense.
I think I fell in love with Leonardo Dicaprio again. For the first time since Titanic & Basketball Diaries. But in this movie he was less Jack Dawson, more Jim Carroll. LOVED it.
I'm out.
One love.

In my suitcase... [16 Oct 2006|07:59pm]
I have onomatopoeia...
And beeya-seeya-deeya...
And I own a KIA...
And I have to pee-ya...
And I have no idea...
And a jar of diarrhea...
And a beeeer...

And I don't know how I fucking remember all of that.
But every 'In My Suitcase' should be so bomb.

I just took the most amazing shower. Dim lights, candles, and the theme from Eternal Sunshine on repeat. It would've been romantic... If I wasn't with, myself. I took extra long too.
I could've been committing secret suicide and no one would've ever known. But alas, I was not.
I'm currently eating Spam. Don't hate.

In my suitcase I also have... pictures from the long ago Smoke Fest(but not many)... So holler.

the only girl ive ever loved
was born with roses in her eyes
but then they buried her alive
one evening 1945
with just her sister at her side
and only weeks before the guns
all came and rained on everyone,
now shes a little boy in Spain
playing pianos filled with flames...
on empty rings around the sun
all sing to say my dream has come.
but now we must pick up every piece
of the life we used to love,
just to keep ourselves at least enough to carry on.

Bazic [14 Oct 2006|05:30pm]
Last night was the illlllll chill session.
Everyone ever went to Tom's.
We played Beirut. Smoked, played Asshole... The night is just, a blur.
Emily cooked for everyone, I brought Liz home. And when I got back, Tom's like "...You missed the entire meal..." It was awful. Because I was starving.
But then Emily made me mac & cheese, and it was so good. I inhaled a bowl of it.
I don't even know. What else happened.
Me, Liz, Hoe, and Nando had the best conversation about like, shit and ankle bracelets. It was hilarious.
I missed Liz. We didn't chill for like 5 years because she was sickly. But last night definitely made up for it.
"oooh, oh, ooooh... iloveyou..." hahahhaa. I LOVE YOU LIZ.
Then at like 4:30, me & Jesse left and went to Dunkin Donuts to get hot chocolate. It was pretty amazing. My friend Vanessa was working, and she was like "HIII How are you?" I was like "HIIII, DRUNK." Pretty great.
Ooooh blurry blur.
Dresden Dolls tickets today.
Space tonight. Outer space.

[05 Oct 2006|01:45am]
The new Diet Tylenol is amazing.
It seriously it's soooo great.
Everyone should try it.

Check back in a day.

Tanning, lunches, new job prospects, Vanna, work, texas chainsaw massacre, hang out, work, drinkingdrinking.

How I love you.

[01 Oct 2006|02:37pm]

Last night was amazing.
Me & Malissa drank a bottle of SoCo.
Then we did some shots of JD.
My first Jack Daniel's experience. Twas good. Not as harsh as I thought it would be.
We all thought Malissa was going to die.
The night included her passing out, puking the entire length of the hallway where the bathrooms are, being carried into the girls bathroom @ Bandstand by 3 guys. Blackout.
Being wheeled outside to the car on a pushcart.
It was all very Tarantino-esque.
Me & Kyle told her all about it this morning, and she laughed really hard.
Great night though. The band jammed, they sounded fantastic.
Possibly hanging out with Kyle in a few. I also hope I see Brandon today. Even though I need to just not do anything at all today.

Dead body patrol, out.

Southern Comfort. [30 Sep 2006|07:17pm]
I plan on drinking a hefty amount of SoCo this evening.
Accompanied by the finest people on this once-green earth.
Accompanied by Beck.
Today I purchased Guero. Which is an amazing album.
I also bought Odelay. Which is also amazing. I'm in love with those 2 cds today.

Then later this evening, I may possibly see Brandon and whomever he happens to be with.
Possibly Mr. Nick Cameron.

I could possibly be drunk for the rest of my life.
